This life-size statue was created as a tribute to the late Frank M. Tejeda and is completely life-like
and was created to scale. The statue is 5 feet 8 inches high and depicts Frank M. Tejeda when he was
in the military, complete with an M-16 rifle, a 45 caliber pistol and holster, and belt with water
canteen all created from wood. 
This wood carved statue took approximately 5,000 hours to complete
and weighs approximately 600 pounds. It is carved primarily from popular and pine.
 
    
Biography of Frank M. Tejeda: October 2, 1945January 30, 1997
A native San Antonian, Frank M. Tejeda served in the Marine Corps in Vietnam, where he was
awarded the Silver Star and Bronze Star for valor, and the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in
combat. Tejeda was elected to numerous state official positions, and in 1992 he was elected to the
U. S. House of Representatives and served in Congress from 1993 to 1997.  This tribute to a native of
San Antonio is an honor to the Tejeda family and to Veterans in our nation. Tejeda was a devoted
public servant who dedicated his career to assisting those who risked their lives for our nation. And,
Tejeda introduced and passed both state and federal legislation to expand veterans’ educational
benefits and improve the health care system for Veterans.
