JOHN WAYNE
 Dimensions:            5’.5” x 5.5’ and Weighs 300+ Pounds

 Medium:                  Pine Wood

Various Stages in creation of John Wayne - Portrait in Wood

Currently on exhibit at Mama’s Restaurant in San Antonio, Texas.  In 2001 Exhibited at the Buckhorn Museum and Saloon in San Antonio, TexasPasko had envisioned this creative portrait in wood concept for 10 years and when it was finished it was exactly like what had been envisioned.

  • December 28, 1998 until July 01, 2001: worked 20+ hours a day, totaling 7,000 man hours to produce John Wayne. It took a minimum of 3,000 hours to create the upper torso.
  • 3,000 hours to put in the legs, shoes, pants, belt, pistol, wrinkles, plus another 1,000 + hours to add the special effects. Consists of 27 different parts (starting with the head and ending with the cactus).
  • Bandana, which looks like felt fabric, was a 12 pound block of wood, carved down to 9 ounces and painted white. Eyeballs made from scratch, carved to 3/32 of an inch. Hair is real. Leather buttons on the vest were carved.   Vest has veins in the leather as well as tassels. The Hands have a particular tension and finger nails and the face have a 5 o’clock shadow.

"JOHN WAYNE, an AMERICAN" who better to be honored!  Pasko’s decision to portray a great American as his first life-like masterpieces is shown in this unique wood sculpted wall installation. Here’s John Wayne, measuring 5.5 foot tall by 5.5 foot wide weighing 300 pounds in a western scene pushing open the Saloon doors, wearing his authentic western hat, white bandana, western-styled shirt and vest, and his “JW” initialed western belt.

The background is a western scene with three western buildings, a sidewalk, a wagon wheel, a stairwell, and some cactus.  Pasko's God-given talent, drive, dedication to detail, and patience contributed to the 7,000 hours used to complete this project.  John Wayne comes complete with a frame and ready to hang.  But regardless of what he was called, the "Duke" was, and is, much more than a movie star; he is a legend!
